犬も戦争でPTSD：War Dog Suffers From PTSD

By some estimates, more than 5 percent of the approximately 650 military dogs deployed by American combat forces are developing canine PTSD.　アメリカの戦闘部隊が徴用する軍用犬約650匹のうち5%以上がPTSDという推計もある。- New York Times
Canin PTSD was also observed in Japan after Tsunami and Earthquake.　The symptoms seem to be pretty similar.;

  • Being hyper-vigilant
  • Avoid buildings or work areas they used to be comfortable in
  • Sharp changes in temperament; e.g. being unusually aggressive to handlers, clingy, timid
  • Stop doing the taskes


Dogs in Japan after quake (source:dog actually)

  • Being afraid of any sound
  • Insomnia
  • Loss of appetite.  In extreme cases, dogs simply stop eating
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Trouble calming down
  • Start showing aggression on little things
  • Shivering while staying alone
  • Being clingy; following owners all the time
  • Separation anxiety. Panic at the idea of being left home alone and resort to urinating

The difference is that the military dogs didn't choose to go to war. Sad.

日本でも地震津波のあと犬のPTSD（心的外傷後ストレス障害）が見られたけど、米軍の戦争犬も戦地で気が変になってしまう犬が結構いるらしい。

米軍の軍用犬に見られるPTSDの症状（ソース：NYT）

  • 警戒心が過剰になる
  • 前は平気だった建物・作業場を、急に避けるようになる
  • 気分が急にかわる。例）攻撃的になったり、くっついて離れない、臆病
  • 訓練された任務を急にやらなくなる
  • 前は吠えなかった銃声に、狂ったように吠える
  • アフガン兵から逃げる

ここにある大地震後の犬のPTSD症状と似てるけど、自分で志願したわけでもないところが哀れ。「犬は忘れないので治療は難しい」らしい。
